Rice Krispie Treats are a childhood favorite for some many people! I used to love them…and still do! They were so easy to make. I would stand with my mom and melt the marshmallows until they were all gooey and stretchy in all the creamy butter. Then you’d pour in those simple Rice Krispie cereal pieces and go to town stirring. That was it!! You’d pour them into a pan, they’d cool and you were done! Memorieeeeeees….sigh.
The cool part about them is…
When I got older, I realized how easy they were to make and customize for any and EVERY occasion! You can make heart shapes, tree shapes, flower shapes, football shapes, you name it! All you need is a cookie cutter! When you want to get really wild, you can add coloring to the marshmallows as they’re being melted and sprinkles too! See! How easy and fun can this be!?
In this edition…
We focus on love for good ol’ Valentine’s Day. So I chose to cut mine out into heart shapes with a heart cookie cutter. Then I melted some white chocolate in a bowl, dipped the corners in and then sprinkled them with some fun Valentines candies and sprinkles. Let them dry on parchment and you’re all set! Oh, and don’t make my mistake and pack them too tightly into the pan!! They will look dried and squished because it will break all the cereal pieces down. So remember to be very gentle and don’t tightly pack them into the pan!

The most gooey, buttery, crispy treats! Color and shape them any way you like!
- 6 tablespoons butter, salted
- 10 ounces mini marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispie Cereal (any brand of course)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the marshmallows, stirring constantly until completely melted. Turn off the heat.
Add vanilla and stir.
Add cereal and stir until it's completely covered in marshmallow.
In a 9x11 pan or glass casserole dish, pour the mixture in and gently press it down with your fingers, or with a spatula that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
Allow to cool. Cut into desired shape with a cookie cutter or simply cut into squares. Enjoy!
If you would like to color your treats, add food coloring to the marshmallows when they are completely melted and stir until you achieve desired color then continue with additional steps. At that time you can also add sprinkles.
